En 1822 la construcción de un convento y una iglesia nos lego lo que hoy conocemos como el Cem

A la derecha se encuentra la capilla con la imagen de Cristo, ubicada en una hornacina.

La mayoría de los materiales y detalles arquitectónicos empleados en la construcción de las tumbas durante el período comprendido entre 1880 y 1930, fueron importados de París y Milán.
Cuenta con diversos mausoleos de mármol decorados con estatuas en una amplia variedad de estilos. Está organizado en manzanas, con amplias avenidas arboladas que dan a callejones laterales donde se alinean los mausoleos y bóvedas. Existe una amplia rotonda central de donde parten las avenidas principales.
Cada mausoleo presenta el nombre de la familia labrado en la fachada; se agregan al frente placas de bronce para los miembros individuales, incluyendo varios presidentes de Argentina.
